Picture a typical airline traveler boarding a plane, finding her seat and steeling herself for hours of boredom. Gogo wanted to take advantage of this truly captive audience and give them a reason to look forward to their flight.

Our unique ‘in-flight only’ promotion got passengers excited about flying domestically on five major carriers – anxiously awaiting the captain’s announcement that it’s okay to use their electronic devices. Because as soon as they did, they could enter for a chance to instantly win prizes specific to each carrier. To achieve this, we leveraged restricted access based on URL detection to confirm users were indeed on an active flight on Gogo. Users entered their seat number, registered, and then found out if they were a winner – and could even redeem their prize immediately in mid-flight!
We ensured that passengers could enter using any device; from smartphones to tablets to laptop computers – a wise move considering over half the registrations came from mobile devices!
While each airline had a custom prize pool ranging from gift cards to trips, the real incentive was the chance to win free Gogo. And to keep the promotion fresh for frequent fliers, we created 3 different phases over the course of the 91-day promotion.
By giving this captive yet highly connected audience the chance to play and even redeem their prizes in real-time… the promotion had a registration rate 5X above average.
